Diamonds are sold by the carat (shown as ct.), which is actually a unit of weight, though most think of a carat in terms of size. The GIA uses D-to-Z color scale to determine the presence or absence of color in colorless diamonds. Diamonds graded for D, E, and F colors are colorless diamonds. D color diamonds are the highest in the color grading and display unmatched brilliance. E color diamonds contain minute traces of color and display extraordinary brilliance and sparkle. E color diamonds have minute traces of color can be detected only by a trained gemologist.
